How We Rate Casinos
Every casino on vancouvernetworkcableinstallation.com, including Captain Cooks Casino, is scored with the same method. Our 2026 criteria are built for Canadian players. We look at how a site treats players in CAD, whether it accepts Interac, what it says about your province, and how its terms work in practice. The criteria below are listed from most to least important, and each one carries a fixed share of the final score.
Note on independence: some links on this site are affiliate links. They never change a score. Every casino is measured against the same checklist, and we update scores when terms, licences or features change.
1. Licensing & Regulation (25% of the score)
A licence is the first thing we check, and a casino that fails here cannot score well elsewhere. We look at who operates the site, which authority issued the licence, and whether the licence number can be confirmed in the regulator's public register.
- Local Canadian oversight: for Ontario, registration with iGaming Ontario and the AGCO. For other provinces, we note whether the site operates under a provincial monopoly, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, or an offshore licence.
- Malta Gaming Authority (MGA): a strong international licence with strict player-protection and dispute rules.
- UK Gambling Commission (UKGC): one of the toughest licences in the world. We treat it as a positive sign even when the casino serves Canadians under a different licence.
- Curaçao: accepted, but it scores lower than MGA or UKGC because player recourse is usually weaker.
We also check the following:
- Independent testing of game fairness (eCOGRA, iTech Labs, GLI) and RNG certificates.
- SSL encryption and a clear privacy policy.
- KYC and anti-money-laundering procedures.
- Whether the operator's history includes unresolved complaints or sanctions.
2. Game Selection & Software Providers (20%)
Variety matters, but quality and fairness matter more. We open the lobby, play the games, and count what is actually available to players in Canada.
- Slots: total library size, the share of well-known titles, progressive jackpots, and published RTP values. Captain Cooks is known for its Microgaming-powered catalogue, so we check how current and varied that library is.
- Live casino: live blackjack, roulette, baccarat and game shows, table limits, streaming quality, and the studios behind them (for example Evolution).
- Table games and specialty titles: blackjack and roulette variants, video poker, and scratch-style games.
- Software providers: we favour licensed studios with audited games. We also note whether a site offers demo play and a working search and filter system.
3. Bonus Terms & Wagering Requirements (16%)
A large headline offer can hide poor conditions. We read the full bonus terms and calculate what each offer is really worth.
- Wagering (rollover): the multiplier, and whether it applies to the bonus alone or to the deposit plus the bonus. Lower is better.
- Maximum cashout and bet limits: caps on winnings from free spins or no-deposit offers, and the maximum bet allowed while a bonus is active.
- Game weighting: how much each game type contributes toward wagering.
- Time limits and expiry: how many days you get to clear
